Flame Fatales Closes, Raising More Than $110,000 For Malala Fund

Games Done Quick’s all-women summer speedrunning event Flame Fatales has concluded after a week of fantastic femme runners blazing through an electric lineup of over 60 games. The event, which ran online from August 13-20, raised more than $110,835 for Malala Fund.

Organized by GDQ’s Frame Fatales community, Flame Fatales – and its winter sister event Frost Fatales – aim to highlight the women and nonbinary gamers of the speedrunning community while raising money for charity. Flame Fatales 2023 benefited Malala Fund, a non–profit that works to secure free, safe, and quality education for girls around the world, especially in regions where many girls miss out on secondary education.

This year included exciting runs from games like Stardew Valley, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Final Fantasy X, Octopath Traveler II, Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, a three-player run of PlateUp!, and Resident Evil Village. Fans can catch videos of all this week’s runs on Games Done Quick’s official YouTube channel.

The Frame Fatales fun doesn’t end here, though! Frost Fatales returns March 3-10, 2024 with another week of speedrunning from our limitless ladies and nonbinary runners. All proceeds from Frost Fatales will benefit the National Women’s Law Center, a non-profit that works to advocate for women’s and LGBTQ rights through litigation, policy, and culture change initiatives.
