Historically Accurate and Authentic Roman City Builder Pax Augusta Heads to gamescom 2023

Indie games publisher Senatis GmbH and breakout developer Roger Gassman have announced that their upcoming hyper-realistic ancient Roman city builder Pax Augusta is headed to gamescom 2023. From August 23-27, attendees can go hands-on with the game; members of the press can additionally speak with Roger for interviews about his debut title as a video game developer.

As a skillful city ruler, players of Pax Augusta quickly attract the attention of the Senate. The Senate will assign the fledging leaders new provinces, wherein they will use their intuition and diplomacy skills to settle. Amass wealth, become involved in political intrigues, and with enough money and power to earn the top title: Emperor of Rome.

Poised to be one of the most realistic, historically accurate city-sim builders to date, Pax Augusta is touted as a one-man project with a lot of passion for Roman history. As the empire expands its territories, it seeks skilled city leaders to establish new settlements and cement Roman control over their newly conquered lands. Players are tasked with undertaking this endeavor, constructing infrastructure, and growing the small burgeoning settlement into a flourishing city. As the settlement grows, tax revenues increase, allowing the settlers to delve into mining raw materials and erecting new structures to meet the population’s needs.

For years, Roger Gassman was on the lookout for a new ancient Roman city builder. When none came along, he decided to take matters into his own hands. Roger spent hours pouring over books and YouTube tutorials to learn how to program and do 3D modeling, read dozens of history books, visited over 50 museums, and quit his full-time job in order to create his dream game. Reflecting this, many of the buildings in Pax Augusta have been recreated 1:1 and can still be visited today as ruins. Historians, archaeologists, and many other community members have supported Robert the project with their expertise since the beginning of the process of development. Now, he’s thrilled to be able to showcase the results of his work to the public for the very first time during gamescom 2023.

Key Features of Pax Augusta Include:

  • Build historically accurate buildings, including thermae, theaters, gladiator schools, and defenses in story mode or sandbox mode

  • Skillfully manage fire, crime, and population uprisings in your own cities, as well as barbarian uprisings, locally stationed legions, or wars in distant parts of the empire that will impact your strategy

  • Engage in politics with capricious, benevolent, and profligate emperors who will each have a strong influence on your life as a city ruler

  • Settle the northern borders of the empire, from Britannia to Dacia!

Attendees at gamescom can check out Pax Augusta from August 23-27 in Hall 10 Block 2, E012gD01. Pax Augusta will release on Windows PC via Steam in 2024. Press who would like to speak to the devs at gamescom, please book here.
