Independent Developer OTUSUN LAND Launches Kickstarter for Farming Simulation Game “Hippoboar Rancher”
OTUSUN LAND, an independent game development and localization team with members in Japan and the US, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the English localization of their upcoming title “Hippoboar Rancher”. The campaign is seeking a goal of $1200 to fund the translation and editing of the game’s script in anticipation of a release on Steam, and is open until September
12. Backers of the campaign can receive perks including apparel, copies of the game’s soundtrack, and the opportunity to appear in the game itself. The game also features a soundtrack from composer Yonao Keishi, known for such titles as YU-NO and Dies irae, and sound effects created by Takami Ryu (EVE burst error, YU-NO)

Hippoboar
Rancher is a
charming, offbeat farming simulation game with a colorful
cast of characters. The story centers on
Logan Lansdale, a dark elf
loan shark who comes into ownership of a run-down ranch by chance.
Players will develop the ranch by raising livestock (including hippoboars, the mascot character of OTUSUN LAND), growing
crops, trading, and
going on quests to
gather materials. Further details on gameplay and
development are being shared via campaign updates. Logan, as
well as side character
Eve, are characters who originated in OTUSUN CLUB’s title nEroErosso, which is also planned
for localization in the near future.
OTUSUN LAND is an offshoot of experienced and established visual novel developer 乙SUN倶楽部 (OTUSUN CLUB), created with the aim of bringing lesser-exposed Japanese gaming and other media content to new people around the globe in both
Japanese and English. The team’s major title, Neighbor, was released in September of 2018, following a very successful Kickstarter campaign which raised over 200% of its goal. The game has experienced continued success on Steam, and has universally positive reviews. OTUSUN LAND has since released the visual novel A Day in the Life of Maria on Steam as well, after a similarly successful crowdfunding campaign.
