ETLOK Studios releases their first story update to this free-to-play browser RPG experience.

Toronto-based ETLOK Studios has announced the release of the next chapter of their free-to-play browser-based narrative prelude Journey Across Raava. The ‘Kikitora’ Update continues the tale that began with the game’s launch late last month as players learn more about the troubles in Aquilae and beyond.
A Murder in Paradise
As part of the “Kikitora” update, the story of life in Raava continues with the shocking murder of a local merchant and no culprit in sight. With a member of the community falsely accused, it falls to the player to discover the truth behind this unexplainable act, before they become the next target.
The update also adds several new gameplay features including an entirely new form of crafting, steeped in the mystical traditions of Raava’s unique world. Qen Smithing allows players to craft new tools and items using the power of Qen.
With the addition of Kikitora, the player will have access to the new Qen Smithing feature as well as additional town features in future updates, including a Trading Post feature to be included in next month’s update.

Raava is an ongoing Lore project

With a month since the release of its first chapter, Journey Across Raava has reached across genres by bringing together puzzle, visual novel, and RPG mechanics into a browser-based multimedia game, while also drawing from the lore and world built from ETLOK’s upcoming MMORPG, Into the Echo.

While being a companion piece to Into the Echo, Journey Across Raava has drawn in players from outside the genre. “We’ve focused on drawing players into our world, first and foremost,” explains ETLOK Studios co-founder Akshay Kolte. “And we’re excited to see how the story evolves as we continue adding updates over the coming months.”

The “Kikitora” update is the first major content update to the game since its release, but the game has received weekly updates to the puzzles and web browser experience and updates are regularly posted to the studio’s community discord.

Other updates included in the “Kikitora” release include:

  • A host of new quests, continuing the story began with the game’s initial release.
  • Three new puzzles, and catch-up features added to existing puzzles for new players.
  • The addition of Qen Smithing with its crafting interface.
  • The ability to replay previous puzzles from the in-game journal.
  • Incantations – a new way to draw upon the magic of Raava.
