Glance unlocks untapped geographies for eSports in India; sees strong engagement from tier1 and tier2 centers for NODWIN BGMI Master Series Tournament on lock screen

Live gaming is now one of GenZ’s most preferred mediums for entertainment.  And Glance – India’s largest lock screen platform – is enabling new audiences from untapped markets to discover premium gaming experiences on the lock screens  of their smartphones.

Recently, NODWIN Gaming, one of the world’s leading esports companies, onboarded Glance as the digital streaming partner for its BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI) Masters Series. As a result of this partnership, Glance live streamed the entire three-week tournament, and had exclusive team interviews, behind the scenes footage, and Vlogs of the event.  An average of 10 million gaming enthusiasts watched the live streams and curated video content on Glance daily, with 10 minutes spent per day per user. A majority of this viewership came from centres outside of conventional urban markets.

Glance enables discovery of gaming experiences in diverse markets through its massive scale and wide reach across the country. The platform has an active user base of 183 million in India and is present on various smartphone models from  top  Android phones. For gaming, Glance’s monthly active user base stands at 65 million, while the same specific to live gaming alone stands at 20 million, making it one of India’s largest platforms for eSports and live gaming tournaments. Besides geographic diversity, Glance has also seen a demographic shift in demand for gaming. Over 40% of its gaming consumers are women.

“Glance is aiming to build the world’s largest ecosystem for LIVE content, and bringing our users live gaming experiences on the lock screen plays a crucial role in our vision and strategy,” said Yashashvi Takallapalli, Vice President, Gaming, Glance. “Gaming is now the language of GenZ and they are hungry for more gaming content, whether it is games to play, watch or learn from. This is true across markets. On Glance, Tier 2 markets comprise nearly 44% of the total time spent on gaming, followed by 29% in Tier 3, and 27% in Tier 1. The estimated distribution for the BGMI tournament is in line with our overall numbers,” he added.

With its vision of bringing the best of ‘all things live’ to consumers, Glance is creating a confluence of live entertainment and gaming. The platform aims to garner more  active participation in its live tournaments, competitions, streams, etc from  popular  celebrities and creators. During the finale of BGMI Masters Series, youth idol King performed live and even returned to the platform to play BGMI alongside fans.

The series started on June 24 and concluded in a grand finale on July 17, 2022. Global Esports was declared the winner of this series following an edge-of-the-seat match between the top teams like Team GodLike & Orangutan. The season also saw lesser-known teams like team Insane Esports and Chemin Esports excel and make an impression.
