In case this news flew by you like a bat outta hell, Ziggurat Interactive recently shared a brand new video in celebration of the BloodRayne‘s 20th anniversary!

Titled “Behind the Bloodshed,” the devs at Yacht Club Games (previously WayForward) discuss their first-hand experience with the BloodRayne franchise and how it has impacted their continued existence within the video game industry.

Take a look behind the scenes in the recently released video:

Sean Velasco, Design Director for BloodRayne: Betrayal, discusses the direction they wanted to take this radical re-vamp of the viscerally bloody cult classic. Leveraging their experience with the Shovel Knight franchise, Sean talks about translating the sultry and mature horror themes into a 2D hack-and-slash platformer. Programmer David D’Angelo also cites inspirations such as Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, wanting to imbue the essence of a stylish supernatural beat-em-up with the challenging nature of a 2D platformer.

About BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites:

Released in 2011, the original BloodRayne: Betrayal was met with passionate reviews for its gorgeous graphics and punishing difficulty. It transformed the series by switching from a 3D format to a fast-paced, 2D side-scroller. In this new iteration, Fresh Bites optimizes the experience by implementing high resolution visuals, modern features, and all-new voice acting performed by original BloodRayne cast members Laura Bailey (Rayne) and Troy Baker (Kagan) As Rayne, players battle through 15 levels and wind their way through a hidden castle where a sinister gathering is taking place. It’s Rayne’s last job — will she “clean house” or find herself six feet under?
