REVIEW : Alienware AW3225Q 4K 240Hz Gaming Monitor

The Alienware AW3225QF is a 32-inch curved 4K QD-OLED gaming monitor that offers a unique combination of 4K resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. It’s the first model available in North America featuring this high-resolution QD-OLED panel.

Display: The AW3225QF has a 4K resolution, resulting in more detailed images and improved text clarity. It supports Dolby Vision and has an eARC port to connect a compatible soundbar easily. The display is one of the key selling points of this monitor, offering a crisp and vibrant visual experience that is hard to match.

Performance: The AW3225QF is outstanding for gaming. It has a near-instantaneous response time that results in crisp motion and low input lag for a responsive feel. Its near-infinite contrast ratio and perfect black uniformity are also ideal for dark room gaming as blacks look deep and inky. The 240Hz refresh rate ensures smooth gameplay, making it a great choice for competitive gamers.

Design: The AW3225QF features a slight curve, even more slight than the Alienware 34’s curve. The curvature is less pronounced than tighter-curved monitors like the Corsair Xeneon Flex, but the slight curve does come with benefits, including reduced glare and deeper perceived blacks. The design is sleek and modern, with a sturdy stand and a clean, minimalist aesthetic.

Issues: Despite its many strengths, the AW3225QF does have a few notable issues. The product I received had a lot of scratches on the screen. This seems to be a common issue among users. The Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process is quite horrendous. Dell provides prepaid shipping labels and will ship a replacement immediately. However, it took 2-3 weeks to get my replacement. There are some technical issues with the AW3225QF. When using HDMI 2.1 and having G-Sync enabled, the bottom third of the monitor flickers and tears. There are also issues with Dolby Vision and the eARC port doesn’t properly work.

Conclusion: Despite these issues, the Alienware AW3225QF is an outstanding monitor. It delivers in every way, offering a unique combination of 4K resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate in a 32-inch panel. However, potential buyers should be aware of the common issues and the RMA process before making a purchase. If you can overlook these issues, the AW3225QF is a fantastic choice for any serious gamer looking for a high-performance monitor.
