REVIEW : Genetic Disaster (PC/ Steam)
Genetic Disaster is co-op, top down twin stick shooter. You control many of the different Heroes available in the game and venture through different randomly generated dungeons filled with enemies and traps.
Each player controls a Hero who can equip a weapon found in the dungeon. The hero can carry a max of two weapons at a time. Levels are randomly generated, so each playthrough of a dungeon is different than your previous run. Rooms spawn enemies based on the number of players and higher difficulty results in better rewards. Genetic Disaster is different compared to other Roguelike games as when you die in this game you have to start from beginning.
Combat is similar to all twin stick shooters, left stick to dodge bullets from enemies and right stick to fire your own bullets. Heroes have unique abilities which can come handy during intense battles. You can upgrade skills and abilities of Heroes using Gold earned during battles.
Even though Genetic Disaster is a procedurally generated game, it still lacks content and variety in type of quests and enemies or even bosses. Even the weapons lack variety with most of them being similar to each other. Running out of ammo is a common site in Genetic Disaster.
The game difficulty increases as you progress through the game, increasing the number of enemies and throwing in a boss to keep things interesting.
Genetic Disaster visuals are quite a sight to look at with Hand drawn 2D art, colors really pop. The art style works well with the game them, everything looks in place. On the contrary the sound department falls short, with most of the sound track being generic and quite boring to be frank.
It is easier to play Genetic Disaster with Keyboard and mouse than compared to controller. Both control types work well but it feels easier to get hand of things using keyboard mouse.
