REVIEW : Injustice 2 (PS4/ PS4 Pro)
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
– Martin Luther King
In a dystopian world, five years after Superman’s defeat, Batman , along with his associates is set to bring back peace to the world that is currently under threat of various antagonists under Gorilla Grodd.
Developed by NetherRealm Studios, Injustice 2 is the sequel to Injustice: Gods Among Us and is published by Warner Bros : Interactive Entertainment. Retaining various game play mechanics from its predecessor, its story resides in the universe of foremost DC comics. Having 28 playable characters that includes many familiar faces offering a vast range, its murky and is accessible to newcomers.
Injustice 2 , continuing the storyline of Injustice , is a fighting game that compels its players to have no mercy on the buttons in order to procure thrill and fun. With an amazing RPG like progression system , the director Ed Boon has provided thrilling fight mechanics , notable presentation and abundant content , that have proved to be a boon to the game. (see what we did there? word play! *wink face*). The transitions in the game are flashy and the introduction of the ‘Gear System’ has increased the value of the game in comparison to the former.
As the player enters the game, he can recognize various activities taking place, a super meter enhances the player’s moves helping him to unlock what are called the “Super Moves”. A plethora of techniques like a sidestepping forward roll or an air recovery letting the player escape the opponent are also available. The Gear System also offers costumes for the characters and equipments such as strength , defence , ability and health. The gear has three varieties- abilities , shaders and equipment which are available for purchase in the loot crate – ” Mother Box (es)” via the use of in game currency. The game also includes separate gear loadouts that are five in number , for each character , allowing them to perform a switch between the setups and the commencement of each match. There’s a micro-transaction system wherein the player can purchase using real world money , “Source Crystals” to buy cosmetic adjustments for the fighters that many include shaders. Using this , the players need not wait to procure them through normal play. However, these purchases only enhance costumes and do not help in increasing game advancements.
Injustice 2 is quite exceptional. The ability to spend meter to gain impervious movement that helps in escaping enemies, allows one to block some environmental attacks, and a global enhancement in the speed chiselling the action , are examples of extraordinary changes in the game making its display atypical. The design of characters are akin to those in the comic , the joker being a little disappointing exception.
The game confuses bleakness for gravity. Exploring the conflict between batman and superman , the player’s able to gain control over almost all the playable characters. The game’s narrative however a little less whimsical and that might prove to be a little drawback but it gets covered by the exceptional mechanics that the game has to offer in a single player story.
Injustice 2 is likable and plunges one to their seat waiting for what is going to come next. It is a win-win for a DC or a fighting game lover and is fantastic in terms of letting the player make his own little changes yet maintaining the essence and atmosphere of the game. Tune in to know more and explore the world of dystopia , Injustice 2 has it all!
