REVIEW : Legends of Kingdom Rush (PC)

Legends of Kingdom Rush is an indie role-playing strategy game developed by Iron Hide Games, the same firm behind Iron Marines Invasion, Junk World, and the Kingdom Rush series.

This RPG game is set in the mediaeval fantasy land of Kingdom Rush, where the Dark Army reigns supreme. However, larger threats lurk in the shadows, and you must destroy them through turn-based combat.

REVIEW : Legends of Kingdom Rush (PC)

This game is best described as a type of choosing your own adventure turn-based isometric roguelite.

The Legends of Kingdom Rush provides a fun and demanding gameplay, especially if you’re new to turn-based RPGs. Several aspects make the game enjoyable, such as experimenting with which heroes perform best for the quest.

The game begins with simple unlocked characters like the Ranger and the Arcane Wizard. The good news is that you’ll be able to unlock the other characters after completing subsequent assignments. They are not restricted by a paywall.

You command a group of three adventures, each with their own set of powers, strengths, and weaknesses, and you pick up a fourth along the road. By playing the game, you unlock additional party members and improve options for the characters you utilise the most. After you’ve chosen your team, you’ll begin on an adventure that will take you to a map dominated by nodes; without going into too much detail, this is where the pick your adventure aspect comes into play, with the added spice of a little RNG. This is something I appreciate because each adventure is fairly random in terms of nodes and random encounters, giving the game a lot of replayability. The boss fights are difficult, and if you make a mistake, the game will not forgive you. The humour continues to make people laugh.

The map progresses linearly towards the boss confrontation. However, there are several routes you can follow before the final battle. It is entirely up to you to choose which path you would choose.

The RNG tales are another new addition. You might come across instances when you have to roll the dice, a la Dungeons and Dragons. The outcome will then be determined by the dice roll. It even contains occasions when you must intervene to prevent your party from fighting.

It is annoying, however, as certain maps require you to redo the entire section if you fail to advance. Assume you reached the boss fight and failed. You’ll have to redo all of your battles.

The good news is that you can then explore the map with a fresh mind by taking a different route through it. It’s fun since you have to come up with different plans and methods to win the game.

REVIEW : Legends of Kingdom Rush (PC)

I’m not going to sit here and tell you that this game is very deep and will devour your life, or that the PC controls are flawless. However, it is a really solid game to play while listening to an audiobook or as a break from work or study, and I’ve already found myself spending hours absorbed in it half-oblivious to the outside world, which I haven’t done in a game in what feels like years. If you like this type of game or are a big fan of Kingdom Rush like myself, you’ll probably enjoy Legends of Kingdom Rush.
