REVIEW : Red Dead Redemption 2 (PC)
Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) is one of the most visually exciting titles on PS4 and Xbox One. Additionally one of this generation’s greatest action video games. A year after its console debut, Rockstar Games finally makes the smash-hit to PC. As with its console counterparts, RDR2 is a must-own title and arguably the nicest, most genuine open-world epic delivered by Rockstar Games.
RDR2 is a prequel to its ist part Red Dead Redemption. Like that title, RDR2 is a tale about the end of the Old West. You take charge of Arthur Morgan, a man who relates to a criminal club called the Vanderlinde Gang. Having consumed most of his life in the gang, Arthur has become disappointed by the criminal lifestyle. Still, Arthur can’t see himself doing anything other than stealing and murdering.
You undertake various main narrative missions that can collectively take upwards of 60 hours to finish. That’s before the conclusion, which can elongate the narrative by another 10-15 hours. The missions include robbing a moving train, relaxing on a runaway horse, engaging in intense combats, or getting drunk with mates. Main missions are completely entertaining and always unique.
The map swarms with side missions that are every bit as interesting as the main quests. Some appear in fixed places, while others occur randomly. Random side journeys almost constantly happen along the streets. These journeys are as diverse as main hunts and include tasks like checking kidnappers or assisting a man suffering from a snakebite. The side missions are worth playing, as they seldom offer more kicks than the main missions.
Apart from the two aforementioned hunts, you can participate in many types of extracurricular pursuits. You can fish, shoot rare creatures, play blackjack, drink, etc… These missions are an excellent way to earn cash and augment Arthur’s natural traits, such as his strength and stamina. Money is particularly essential for assuring you always have a good stock of bullets, medicines, and other provisions on your person.
All quests and mission, whether interesting or ordinary, pull you deeper into Rockstar’s amazingly detailed take on the Old West mythos.
When you aren’t killing foes or bickering horses, RDR2 can be a serene, tranquil experience. The city is sparse, so you’ll consume long periods alone in the forest. That said, gun combats can occur at any moment. RDR2’s shooting and defence mechanics function similar to Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto V. You take protection behind both natural and manmade objects and pop enemies from (relative) safety. Weapons automatically lock the target, so it’s simple to get headshots by moving the aiming reticule somewhat above a target’s chest. In addition to using .45 calibre pistols and rifles, you can send foes by hurling dynamite and Molotov cocktails.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s graphics are soft and sensible. Sadly, that authenticity can sometimes hamper gameplay. Arthur feels “heavy” gratitude to his slow, leisurely animations. It is close to difficult to cancel the action and hop to another.
