Film and television superstar Simu Liu (Marvel’s Shang-Chi, Barbie, Kim’s Convenience) took the stage at The Game Awards to present a world premiere trailer for Stormgate, the highly anticipated new real-time strategy game from Frost Giant Studios.
Liu, the New York Times best-selling author of We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story, is a veteran RTS player who will portray Warz in Stormgate. Warz is a leader in the Infernal Host army and will be a recurring playable character in Stormgate’s ongoing storyline, which was written with the help of Chris Metzen, the creative visionary behind Blizzard Entertainment’s original Warcraft and StarCraft RTS universes. Warz is revealed in the closing moments of the trailer, spearheading an Infernal invasion force.

“When we heard that Stormgate was happening and that it was from so many of the same people who made the games that I loved growing up (and worshipped in a lot of ways), I got excited and wanted to see if I could be involved,” said Simu Liu. “What’s most exciting about Stormgate is that it was made by people who love RTS. This is a game that, in its DNA, is every bit the games that I loved growing up. I feel like it doesn’t get more authentic than that.”
Kickstarter Founder’s Packs and Exclusive Collector’s Edition
Earlier this week, Frost Giant launched a Kickstarter campaign (playstormgate.com) that was fully funded in under 15 minutes, raising over a million dollars by day 2 and becoming one of the fastest-rising video game Kickstarters in recent history. Supporters can receive digital Founder’s Packs that include campaign content, playable Heroes, and exclusive rewards such as beta access in 2024 and a limited-edition in-game chicken pet. Kickstarter will also give players an opportunity to secure a limited-edition physical Stormgate Collector’s Edition that includes a Vanguard Vulcan mech statue.
“When Simu visited Frost Giant headquarters to show us his RTS skills, his passion really struck a chord with us,” said Tim Morten, CEO and Production Director at Frost Giant Studios. “The excitement around Stormgate from longtime RTS players is why we decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign. With community support, we can continue to expand the scope of our beta tests and fund a gorgeous Collector’s Edition of the game. Steam Early Access Summer 2024
Stormgate entered closed beta testing on December 5 and will be free-to-play when it enters Steam Early Access in summer 2024. Early Access is an opportunity for the Frost Giant team to continue iterating, polishing, and producing content while receiving direct feedback from players. Stormgate’s official release date, according to Frost Giant Studios’ game director Tim Campbell, is “when it’s ready.”
