Bossa Studios makes Surgeon Simulator 2 training programme available for free to all NHS staff.

Bossa Studios has announced that it will be giving Surgeon Simulator 2 away for free to National Health Service (NHS) workers in the UK as part of its new NHS: National Handout of Surgeon Simulator initiative – or NHSNHSS for short.

“At Bossa, we’ve always envisioned Surgeon Simulator 2 as a valuable training tool for NHS workers to hone their healthcare skills!” said Henrique Olifiers, Bossa Studios’ Gamer-in-Chief and CEO. “The Surgeon Simulator 2 community is frankly rubbish at saving Bob, so we think our players need to be shown how it’s really done.”

GP Registrar, Dr. Idris Morgan (an actual real-life doctor who has participated in surgery and stuff) has endorsed the campaign.

“Surgeon Simulator 2 is absolutely NOT a viable medical training tool,” said Dr. Morgan.

“However, I do enjoy playing video games in my spare time and I’m confident medical professionals around the world will find Bossa’s interpretation of medicine, and the possibility of five-second heart-transplants, very amusing.”

Dr. Morgan also goes by the name Doctor Mim on YouTube where he (attempts) to play Surgeon Simulator 2.

The NHS: National Handout of Surgeon Simulator initiative runs until Thursday 22 October.

Released in August 2020 on the Epic Game Store, Surgeon Simulator 2 is the sequel to 2013’s cult favourite known for physics-based pandemonium and a complete disregard for medial accuracy.

The sequel features an all-new co-operative multiplayer, in which budding surgeons can play with up-to-three other players to tackle everything from heart transplants to limb replacements. There’s also a brand-new story mode featuring new operations for players to make a hash out of as they explore a mysterious medical facility.

Bossa Studios is also supporting North Lincolnshire NHS Trust with its Surgeon Simulator 2 speed-running event, which will feature real doctors raising money to improve MRI facilities.

The 24-hour fundraiser will feature a cardiothoracic surgeon (an actual heart surgeon), chief cardiologist (another type of heart surgeon), radiologist (x-rays and stuff), an IT technician (IT technician) and many more attempting to complete a heart transplant the fastest.

The stream will take place HERE from 10:00am BST on Thursday 15 October.

“We’re very grateful to Bossa Studios for helping us with our charity gaming stream to raise money for the Health Tree Foundation’s Improving MRI At Grimsby for Everyone (IMAGE) Appeal,” said Kris Weavill, Diagnostic Systems Coordinator, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation

Surgeon Simulator 2 is out now on the Epic Game Store and available for £19.99 / $24.99 if you don’t work for the NHS.
