Think Ten Media Group Brings Their Storytelling Prowess to PlayStation with FMV Detective Sim Case Files: The Death of Paulette Williams

Multi-award winning writer/director Ramon Hamilton’s work has been featured by NBCLatino, Univision, Fusion, ABC News, Vice News and others. Case Files marks Hamilton and Think Ten’s official move into the indie game dev space with a project that plays to Hamilton’s strengths as a filmmaker known for crafting authentic narrative experiences that engage and emotionally resonate with audiences.

In its three months on Steam, Case Files: The Death of Paulette Williams has been compared to Her Story, one of the games that inspired Hamilton to create this unique FMV experience. While both gaming experiences are character driven and minimalist in their approach, Case Files offers its own unique mechanics aimed at creating a deeper sense of immersion within this genre.

Despite Her Story‘s popularity, the game was not released on PlayStation. This makes Case Files a welcome addition to the PlayStation library, and it will be available for PS4 and PS5 at the end of the month.

Case Files brings players into the intimate setting of a police station interrogation room and tells an intriguing story as players immerse themselves in the case, working with Marty, their detective partner, to determine which of the two suspects were ultimately responsible for the death of Paulette Williams. Hamilton’s filmmaking experience comes through and benefits the game, which takes advantage of subtlety, nuance and strong acting performances to make every detail count.

In this real-time, police interrogation and detective simulator, players guide an investigation through the use of suspect interviews, video playback, and various evidence documents. Over the course of the investigation, players must use their wits and make critical decisions that will shape the course of the investigation as they seek to bring the investigation to a close.

“As a lifelong gamer myself, PlayStation has always demonstrated what is possible for narrative gaming,” Hamilton states. “To now be releasing a game on that platform is really exciting for me personally. As a narrative storyteller, first as a filmmaker and now as a game developer, this release feels like a perfect home for this game and any future games I develop.”

With seven possible endings, Case Files is primed for replay with each ending offering vastly different playthroughs. The game reflects Hamilton’s commitment to innovation in the FMV space and marks Think Ten Media Group’s successful shift away from independent filmmaking and into the world of indie gaming. Case Files will be available on February 27th for PlayStation 4 and 5 in North and South America with a European region release slated for Q2 of 2023.
