The New Role Solidifies Whitethorn Games Commitment to Inclusivity in Gaming, as Dye Will Oversee Ongoing Accessibility Efforts Within the Company

Today, Whitethorn Games – publisher of inclusive, accessible, low-stress indie games including Calico, Lake, and Wytchwood – announces Britt Dye as the company’s first Chief Accessibility Officer (CAO). As one of the first CAOs in the industry, this groundbreaking executive-level position demonstrates Whitethorn’s ongoing dedication to accessibility and inclusivity across the brand.

Since joining the company in 2021, Dye has been instrumental in ensuring that all Whitethorn games meet and often exceed industry accessibility standards in order to bring games published by the company to as many players as possible. In her new role, she will continue to champion initiatives and drive the company’s mission to create inclusive and accessible gaming experiences for all.

“I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in terms of accessibility at Whitethorn Games,” said Dye. “However, I recognize that we have a long way to go. We are constantly learning and growing as a company in this space, and I am excited to see what new research, community feedback, and learning we’ve gained through collaboration with accessibility-focused organizations we can implement in the years to come.”

Among her accomplishments, Britt has led the charge to integrate support for the Xbox Adaptive Controller into Whitethorn’s titles, making the company’s games more accessible to a wider range of players with diverse needs. A strong believer in building capacity and sharing knowledge to benefit all in the video game community, she has lent her expertise to many industry discussion panels, including US GAConf 2022, Bootcamp de Diversidade, and LibCon, among others. In addition, she has contributed to in-depth accessibility articles with GameDeveloper and cited a resource for many feature articles about accessibility in gaming within the video game media space.

With Dye’s appointment, Whitethorn Games’ executive branch is now 75% women-led, which further highlights the company’s commitment to gender equality and diverse representation in leadership roles.

“We believe that gaming should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities or background,” said Dr. Matthew White, CEO of Whitethorn Games. “By appointing Britt Dye as our Chief Accessibility Officer, we’re taking a significant step forward in our mission to make gaming a more inclusive and enjoyable experience for all.”
