PREVIEW : Lumencraft (PC)

Lumencraft combines the frenzy of an action survival thriller shooter with the inventiveness of a tower defence game.

It is recommended that you begin the game with the tutorial to understand what Lumencraft needs from you. To begin, you have nothing more than a drill and a few flares, which you will use to carve tunnels.

There is no micromanagement of the drill, so you don’t have to worry about it running out of “fuel.” Although the drill can be used as a weapon, it is not the ideal option. The player will be given a weapon early in the tutorial, although there are other weapons available, such as rocket launchers, machine guns, and flamethrowers.

The drilling of certain locations will provide materials for the building and upgrade the facilities. Pink formations include luminescence, while brown ones contain metal. Both are equally valuable to the player, and various generators can improve their production.

The game does not warn about the numerous dangers in Lumencraft. Drilling into some rocks reveals underground monsters such as these aggressive termites. If you come too close to the lava, it will spill out into the open, posing a risk to the player and his equipment. Adapting to these situations is critical for Lumencraft survival.

While the tutorial provides all of the fundamentals and resources right away, in true Sandbox mode, the player is left to develop things on their own. There are “hints” in the form of shiny rocks that will guide the player in the proper direction, but how he gets there is entirely up to him.

There will be facilities close to the nearest power generator, so players will need to link to existing ones on a network. Raising the drill’s level should be one of your top priorities, because the greater the level, the more the player can explore the cave.

Aside from the game’s basic “Sandbox” mode, there are other functions, such as one in which the player must exit a dark cave. The player can still access building facilities and upgrades, but these are more in line with Lumencraft’s gunplay.

The shooting in the title is similar to that of an arcade shooter from the 1990s; the larger the guns, the more slaughter the player causes as the threat level climbs. This indicates that termites and worms will eventually grow into spiders and massive animals. Lumencraft begins simple, gradually introducing the player to the realm of madness.

As an Early Access title, this tower defence shooter has a lot of space for growth. Nonetheless, thanks to Steam Workshop’s assistance, Lumencraft has the potential to become a long-term investment. Many of these titles have benefited from user-generated content.

Overall, it is a straightforward experience that anyone can participate in and enjoy. There is no story or condition to begin. It has no significant mechanisms that necessitate surgical accuracy to enjoy. Lumencraft is as much fun to play as it is to watch, thanks to its dark but almost vivid graphics and straightforward control. It’ll be interesting to see how this game evolves in the future.
