REVIEW : Railway Empire (PS4/ PC/ Steam)
Tycoon games are rare sight on consoles but Railway Empire is breath of fresh air. Railway Empire is an in-depth sim game which is very enjoyable on consoles due to its intuitive control layout.
Railway Empire plays best on PC but playing on console is just as easy and just as enjoyable. The controls do have a learning curve and require you to memorize them.
Railway Empire has you connecting cities, transferring resources from one to another like crops from farms. Train routes are set to transfer cargo. Building tracks is easy and you can network them with connected locations. Creating successful networks result in growth of industries inside the city.
You hire employees to work on trains, sabotage competition and do work at the office. You can even buy out your competition by purchasing their stocks. The tutorial does a brilliant job of explaining things well. The campaign offers a good learning curve which helps you get accustomed to the mechanics of the game. All this results in the game being very addictive.
Railway Empires runs very well on PC as well as the consoles. Loading times are very short and visuals are stunning for a sim game. You can see people walking around the cities. Audio is very well done and soundtrack features American music from that era. The voice acting is spot on too with right amount of humor to keep you chilling during long sim sessions.
Not all is hunky dory though, some events occur at random and disrupt the flow of the game, like train carrying different cargo instead of what you assigned to it. Trains also break down frequently and citizens becoming unhappy for no apparent reason. Plus, the menus provide a lot of information which are not laid out very well.
