Experience the delights of what it’s like to have allergies and IBS at the same time, when comedy RPG ATHENIAN RHAPSODY releases on May 14th! Simultaneously a tribute to classic games such as Earthbound, absurdist comedy, and create your own adventure storybooks, porting studio & publisher Top Hat Studios, Inc. will be launching the game on PC (Steam, GoG), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Google Play and the Apple App store. Made by solo developer Nico Papalia with a focus on tongue-in-cheek storytelling and vibrancy, you’ll explore the colourful world of Athens as you make friends (or not), engage in rambunctious mini-games ranging from weight-lifting, shooting bugs, or drawing your own bosses to fight, and partake in excruciating challenges such as “Carry A Feather” as you travel from town-to-town. All this in the name of writing your own Rhapsody – a special, unique memento/token of your exact playthrough (PLEASE NOTE: THIS HAS NO RELATION TO NFTs OR WEB 3.0). The trials and tribulations of your journey make up this individualised story, which can then be shared online with other players to let everybody know how much of a psychopath you are!
- Explore the colorful world of Athens, and hop from town-to-circus-to-UFO-piloted-by-cats-in-the-sky as you write your Rhapsody
- Answer a deep, meaningful personality test that reveals your deepest, darkest desires (such as wanting to be a bus driver)
- Party members galore! 16 potential companions await, each with a bold personality and some being a little bit more unhinged than others
- Tons of enemies for you to FIGHT or BEFRIEND! This world has no shortage of intense battles with opponents that range from weird, wacky, tough, cute, and outright goofy!
- Figure out why everyone’s crazy for hoarding EXP (hopefully it doesn’t have any side effects) and engage in tough Souls-like dating mechanics(?)
- Minigames that’ll challenge your limits, like having to spell your own name, dodging space invaders, copying the circus mimes, and paying your taxes
- A branching narrative with different endings depending on your choices, friendships, and other stuff that just happens in life
ATHENIAN RHAPSODY also provides a whole on-going universe of content for players to engage in, with a unique online “Rhapsody system”. With every playthrough, you’ll write a unique Rhapsody – an individualised story that’s a retelling of the journey you just took, with each decision, interaction, and friendship reflected on. Are you going to have the most chill time ever and making everyone your dude? Or instead, be a twisted maniac that replaces the chocolate milk with mud water from the local nuclear accident? The way you play completely changes how your Rhapsody is told, and no two of them are ever the same. Share them online with other players and your friends, and laugh & guffaw (or be horrified) at each other’s stories. As noted earlier, this has nothing to do with NFTs (and we hate how they’ve taken use of the word token!!!) and is just a silly little feature to bring together the game’s community.
