DEFLECTOR is a top-down action rogue-lite set in a deadly microcosm. The game tests your reflexes and allows you to choose your own adventure. It’s a great Souls-like adventure that continually tests you every time. While it doesn’t improve on the roguelite formula in any way, it’s a refreshing take on the genre that provides hours of entertainment.
The game is set in hostile worlds teeming with viruses. You must strike down increasingly challenging enemies with your weapons and their own deflected projectiles. The goal is to live, die, grow stronger, and become powerful enough to reach the Source.
One of the unique features of DEFLECTOR is the ability to choose one of several Bioshells, each with unique weapons, abilities, and means of deflecting projectiles. You start with the Boomerang-slinging Eradicator and unlock more by living and dying in the experiment.
The game is really tough. Every world is filled with unique hostile fauna ready to swarm you with bodies and bullets. Every threat is deadly from the smallest fodder to the imposing Apex Virus at the end of each world. You must learn to overcome every foe through trial and many lethal errors.
Your Hub is filled with modules aiding in virus research. You can accumulate experience through combat to unlock more Mutations, Bioshells, and persistent upgrades. This adds an element of progression to the game, giving you something to work towards as you play.
Overall, DEFLECTOR is a challenging and engaging rogue-lite that offers a unique take on the genre. Its Bioshell system adds an element of customization and progression, while its tough gameplay will keep you on your toes. If you’re a fan of rogue-lites or action games, DEFLECTOR is definitely worth checking out.
