Sea of Thieves is about creating your own stories. It’s about creating stories alone or with friends, travelling the high seas as a pirate looting chests and completing tasks.

Rare has created an ecosystem for user storytelling and such dynamic gaming. Whether you are playing solo or with friends there are lot of things to experience. You can tackle any situation the way you want, creating a unique user defined experience.

Due to this user generated storytelling, there is no story or campaign in Sea of thieves. You will pick up voyages from one of the three trading companies, each of which specialize in certain type of quest. The Gold Hoarders offer treasure hunts, The Order of Souls provides you with quest which have you battle crews of dead pirates and lastly Merchant Alliance mostly by shipping livestock.

You are free to follow any of the factions as you like all the while building your reputation and unlocking more challenging missions which provide better equipment. While there is level cap, the quests can still be assigned by higher level crew mates, so a rare quest can still be done by a beginner if he has a higher-level player in his crew.

Sea of thieves plays out like a MMO but it is mostly based on grind heavy quest system but the amount of freedom this game offers makes the grind worth it.

The game has a learning curve and the controls might seem daunting at first but you will soon get accustomed to them. Every item on your tool wheel has a use like musical instruments can calm certain creatures.

The game offers tone of customization as well. As you begin the game you can get to choose from a wide variety of character models as your pirate persona plus every item can be customized. Ships can be redesigned but they are very expensive and you would have to grind a lot for them.

You can play Sea of Thieves solo but the game is much more fun with friends as the game gets boring doing same grindy task over and over alone. Plus, it is difficult to manage a ship alone, so it is best tto team up.

The game is very grindy and also lacks content or differentiation among quests. After a few hours you will be doing the same things again and again. Plus, there is no real blind matchmaking in the game but you can invite anyone you meet in game to join your crew. Playing with strangers can be frustrating as there is no coordination on which task to tackle next. After spending like 5 or 6 hours in the game you would have seen all the content the game has to offer, done all the quest the game has to offer.

The Sea of Thieves feels like an Early Access game sold at full price without the content of a full price game. Sea of thieves has great potential to be an amazing game in the future but currently it is nowhere close.

review-sea-of-thieves-xbox-one-pcRare have a hidden gem at their hands with Sea of Thieves. They can either let it die or make the most out of the platform and filling it with loads of content. A content filled Sea of Thieves would be amazing to play with friends. Wish Sea of Thieves also featured more accessibility options for solo players as currently it is hard to sail alone. Hope rare finds the hidden treasure that Seas of Thieves is and fills it with more quests. Hardcore Gamers Unified recommends Sea of Thieves for its brilliant pirate platform and user generated stories.
