REVIEW : SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake (PC)

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is a platformer game that brings back the charm and humor of the iconic show. However, as a platformer, it falls short in comparison to its peers. The game’s story begins when SpongeBob makes a series of ill-advised decisions which cause the very fabric of Bikini Bottom to be torn apart at the seams. SpongeBob and a newly transformed balloon version of Patrick begin hopping through portals and fighting samey jelly monsters in search of their friends. The plot is basically just a thinly veiled excuse to revisit memorable SpongeBob episodes.

While the game does benefit from the quirky SpongeBob characters and their world, it’s a terribly bland journey that feels painfully frozen in time even as the fans of the show have continued to age. Despite its shortcomings, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake has received mixed or average reviews from critics with a Metascore of 73 on Metacritic.
