REVIEW : Witchtastic (PC)
Many titles are usually released with Early Access so that players, upon purchase, players can help the development team polish and fix bugs that may appear throughout the games. Red Fur Games has had its Witchtastic job for a season in Early Access to get opinions and suggestions from all those players who have been testing the game while it was in development.
This title is quite a challenge since it forces us yes or yes to cooperate with friends – in local cooperative mode or through the internet – or with other players to overcome each of the challenges that will appear in the different levels – each one of them with greater difficulty than the previous one.
Like other games of this style -such as the famous Overcooked where we got into the skin of funny chef characters who try to save the world through their dishes-, Witchtastic is a cooperative title for up to 4 players where we get into the skin of a witch who must prepare various magic potions as quickly as possible before time runs out.
At each level, we will learn new potion recipes, and we will have to be aware of what each of them asks us – they will be found at the top of the screen, simply by approaching it, the necessary ingredients will appear to be able to do it. But it will not be enough to take the ingredients and throw them into the cauldron to cook them. Depending on the type of ingredient – we will have flowers, garlic, mushrooms, belladonna, among many others that we will discover as we progress – we will have to cut it or use a mortar to crush some of them before cooking.
But we will not only have to be aware of the necessary ingredients to complete the potions. We will also have to make sure that the cauldron has the necessary wood to cook since it will be consumed, and we will have to go for more wood to stoke the fire – there will be times when we find a pile of firewood somewhere in the area. But other times, we will have to cut down the trees in the area to get firewood for the cauldron.
On the other hand, we can speed up the cooking process by removing the ingredients from the pot to cook beforehand. After this, we will have to take a flask to collect the result of our recipe and give it to Olwy -an owl who will accompany us throughout the story and who will give us useful tips about the game-.
We can also make our character go faster using a magic broom that we will use to go faster, but it will also be useful to go through certain obstacles. For example, suppose we are going to use the broom to move from one area to another. In that case, we will have to bear in mind that we will not be able to carry any ingredient in hand, so before passing, it would be convenient to leave the necessary materials in an accessible area between the two areas to keep making potions.
Another way to get your character to go faster in all aspects -walking, cooking, cutting, etc .. . – Will be drinking coffee. The only thing we will have to do is take a coffee bean, cook it and drink it from a flask and we will start working more quickly and efficiently – the effect is temporary -.
In addition, at certain levels – especially as we progress – we will find different challenges that will make it difficult for us to overcome them. For example, enchanted forests that will change their structure and that will force us to take alternative routes to be able to continue -we must be careful not to get locked up because otherwise, it will be difficult to overcome the level since we will lose a few valuable seconds-, hungry wolves that we they will attack if we are within their detection radius and will leave us stunned for a few seconds -if we play with other players, they will be able to remove the stun by hitting us and making our return to reality-, and many other enchanted challenges that will appear in the game.
We will have a home where we can change and customize our character. In addition to the colour of the clothes, we can change the type of dress and hat -the latter we will get as a reward as we pass the different levels-.
The most important aspect of overcoming the levels is to have a good organization in the team, so it is convenient to distribute the work so that each player is aware of specific aspects and not all the players are going to perform the same actions simultaneously time.
Technically we find ourselves with a fair game in terms of graphics and sound, but it is not a remarkable aspect since Witchtastic stands out for being a fun game to spend some time with friends. However, it must be said that the game works smoothly and we did not find any problem in the time that we have been playing it. Furthermore, the game has texts in several languages, including Spanish.
